Established by craftsman, Clive Fiddis, Annadale Brickworks is a ceramics studio set within the urban fabric of Belfast. With two floors, a kiln room and an open plan flexible space with natural sunlight and views of the inner city terraces above, it will come as no surprise that Clive finds himself inspired by the urban architecture and city hustle and bustle around him. Although he very much considers himself an urban potter, Clive’s studio is very peaceful and private, an attribute he considers conducive to his work.
He throws most of his pots on the wheel using a simple stoneware clay, after which the pots are dried slowly, bases turned, handles attached and finished before firing. Then the pots are fired twice, glaze fired in a gas kiln at stoneware temperatures.
